ISTE STUDENTS' CHAPTER - GHITM
The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is a national, non-profit making professional body, registered under the societies registration Act of 1860. Started in 1941 as the Association of Principals of Technical Institutions (APII),later it was converted into "Indian Society for Technical Education",New Delhi in 1986 with a view to enlarge its activities to advance the cause of technical education in the country. It is the only national organisation of educators in the field of engineering and technology.
GHITM was founded in 1997 under the patronage of Ghanashyam Hemalata Vidyamandir Society (GHVMS). This institute in the private sector is unique in the sense that it is funded and managed by All India food Corporation of India Workers' Union,Paradeep Port & Dock Mazdoor Union, all India Food & Allied Worker Union and All India Petroleum Products Handling & Carrier Employees Union. It is located in the Puri-Konark marine drive about 17km from the native of Lord Jagannath and 19km from the world fomous Golden Poganda "The Konark Temple". The sprawling campus spread over 127 acres is lust green and provides ideal ambience for dedicated pursuit of knowledge in technical education.
ISTE has its Students' Chapters in many colleges across the country. A similar Students'Chapter has been established in GHITM in 2002. From then till now this Chapter has taken the lead role in carring on the extra carricular activities in this college. Apart from a number of other activities, this chapter yearly host a State Level Tecnical Symposium under the name "CREST" in order to take the technocrats to the peack of excellance.
